nine is fine

July 13, 2017

so another terrific birthday weekend was had.  just like last year, jovie wanted to bring a friend to do something special.  this year she decided to bring her school best friend, Serenity, to Build a Bear.  both of the girls love snuggly friends, so this was a great choice.  a bunny named Caramel was Serenity’s choice.  and Jovie chose a kitty of all of her favorite colors named Sugar Cookie.  The girls enjoyed the store and all the stuff to choose from.

afterwards, we went to the Cheesecake Factory for lunch.  it was unfortunate that nobody loved the food as much as we had hoped. even the birthday girl didn’t like their extra-saucy mac n cheese.  it was all OK but not near as good as last year’s lunch at the American Girl Bistro.  also, none of us got any cheesecake.  other desserts were chosen (and HUGE).

we came home & jovie just enjoyed reading and spending time with her new snuggly.

sunday greeted us with a NINE YEAR OLD.  she woke up and we got some good snuggles.  she couldn’t wait to open presents and must have asked about that 1000 times before breakfast of a spinach ham scramble and cinnamon rolls.  luckily for her 2 of her gifts were open in the morning.  one was a certificate for her to pick out a new scooter.  the 2nd told her what the day was going to be filled with.  we were lucky that yet again, the local theatre had a production on her bday.  and last year, mary poppins was perfect.  this year, we got to see Beauty & the Beast which is also one of her favorites!

the show was at 3 so by the time we cleaned up from breakfast, came back from scooter shopping and having appetizer lunch, we decided to let her open all of her gifts.  we knew we would be gone the rest of the night & wanted her to have time to enjoy some more books & shopkin toys.  she was delighted with a craft set she had asked for, saw that it came in the mail, then plum forgot all about.  after recently reading in a book mentioning a magnetic poetry set, she was excited to get her very own.  (the HAPPINESS set includes lots of happy & calm words.  like rainbow, flower, bluebird, blue sky, dream…. oh and also martini.  ????

we all enjoyed the performance (seriously! a GREAT THEATRE) and then a huge hibachi dinner where we were all SO. FULL.  no worries. we were able to come home & have cake (strawberry again) and then just slip into a food coma.  she sat on her beanbag chair and read books.  The Mr. fell asleep on the couch.

a busy weekend was capped off with everyone going to bed at NINE o’clock.

the first pic is of her talking to gramma & grampa.  we were lucky enough that they could spend a fun july4th with us again and enjoy a little bit of birthday time with us early.  jovie was thrilled not only with the books, but the gift card to buy even MORE books.  plus a wonderful keepsake of their time together at Lion King.

we also all got a kick out of -after not hearing that song in well over a year- that as soon as we got in the car after the performance, Rachel Platten’s Better Place was on! PERFECT

happy birthday!!!!!!!!

July 9, 2017

thank you, sweet girl, for all the happiness you bring!

we love you so much.

all of the holidays

January 6, 2017

i got on here to do a merry christmas, happy new year post & i see that today is the anniversary of when i joined wordpress.  which means today is the day i announced my pregnancy and declared there was a little bean to have a blog.

we’ve come a long way!

so i hope all of your holidays were great; ours was.  it was a little lazy like last year.  so why haven’t i blogged up to this point?? i couldn’t tell ya!  i had plans to upload my pix on NYEve.  while being consumed with football (??)  alas…

were were very lucky to have uncle natey come down this year again with gramma & grampa.  it was a short visit, but we all had a good time.  there may have been a bit of complaining on my part because we were able to play CORN HOLE it was so warm!

isn’t that a lovely birthday gift i got from The Mr.???

a fabulous christmas was had by all.  The Mr. got a braves running shirt, I got a fancy mailbox & jovie got the spanish dictionary she asked santa for.  several other wonderful gifts were given & gotten.  after all was said and done, jovie has 32 new books & 4 magazines!

then we enjoyed potter christmas & a night in the “omelette hotel”.  she had also requested to visit Meemaw & Poppa at the cemetery for the first time. after all that, it was lazy time at home.  a little bit of rain. a few hikes were had.  and we have enjoyed The Mr. for the past month.  it has all been nice.

and today, i picked jovie up from school 2 hours early because -the northerners will love this- school closed IN CASE of snow.    their concern is the high schoolers driving.  and also, Snowmageddon!

bring on another fun weekend of family time.  games, movies & her kindle fire she got from santa will be enjoyed!

have a stellar 2017!

this may be when Santa said if she cleans her room she gets an extra gift…. if she doesn’t…. he’ll take one away!

this is what your face looks like when you open a box of about a dozen books on one of your favorite characters.  (trixie beldon, if you’re wondering)

December 17, 2016

i hope this won’t be the only “snow” we see;  but if so, at least it’s pretty!

jovie enjoyed being part of the snow corps in their production of Grinch last weekend.

all the christmas prep is underway.  the countdown is on.  no more school.  it’ll be GREAT.

hoping lots of joy your way……

how may i serve you?

November 1, 2016

for halloween, jovie had the idea to be a servant.  from Samantha’s time (she’s an American girl).  she’s been talking about this for awhile.  she’d wear her long black skirt & white undershirt.  we borrowed the same Felicity apron & head cover from Mrs. Edkins [& now i see that somehow, someway, i did not post anything about halloween last year???]

you see, servants don’t smile.

but you see, it was a success.

happy november, y’all.  it doesn’t FEEL like autumn, but at least it’s looking nice!

eight is great

July 13, 2016

well, well, well.  what a fabulous weekend we all had!

even leading up to it was fun.  and this year was as easy as

016, which jovie enjoyed decorating herself!

Jovie woke up on Saturday giddy & excited for the day ahead!! “I’m 8! I’m 8! I’m 8!” complete with bouncing up and down.

In lieu of a party, jovie wanted to bring one of her best friends, Anna, to the American Girl store in ATL for lunch.  so after a breakfast of 8 & J pancakes, we headed up & intended to  have Clarabelle’s (and Caroline’s) hair done and have lunch.  you should see all the silly fun things they do for the dolls!  The girls were very gracious in the fact that the salon was all booked up.  So they rode the carousel in the mall instead.

The American Girl Store was pretty cool!  We all had fun looking at all the girls’ collections.  And Jovie & Anna were quite impressed with how fancy lunch was!  Ruth Ann & I were impressed with the yummy food.  It was a really fun girls’ outing.  Jovie said she really enjoyed having that time with a friend; she didn’t want to get overwhelmed at a traditional party.  The Mr. enjoyed a quiet day at the pool after all his yard work.

We came home & Jovie read and imagined and played.  she did not want to swim because she knew we had tickets to a special performance that night….   we seem to get lucky that we keep finding awesome shows playing on July 9th!  this year it was Mary Poppins at a local theater.  That has been one of her favorite movies, so I was particularly excited for it!

Meanwhile, we ate a requested dinner of homemade/healthy mac n cheese with ham & peas (mixed in for her).  Then she opened our gifts.  Books, stationery, dollhouse items were in addition to the easel & palette she has been asking for since before xmas.  (gramma & grampa included a palette in their generosity, so now she has 2!!) and she really wanted my old phone.  Which is basically an app & photo machine.  She has shown some interest in taking pictures again, so she was excited to have a camera that wasn’t so babyish.  I am interested in being able to upload these easier!

She was and is thrilled with all of her gifts, and thanked us profusely.  She had quite a few packages & cards come and was so happy with the thoughtfulness of friends & family.

Sunday we didn’t see much of her.  The Mr. & I even went swimming without her.  We came home from (a stunning performance) Mary Poppins quite late, so she was feeling tired.  And when you have 4 new books you can’t really do anything else until they all get read.  I wish someone would invent something called a bookmark!  This is on top of the 4 new books she read on July 5th after gramma & grampa gave her their gifts!**

It really was a fun weekend, even if our pretty little baby did have to turn EIGHT.

**this year, since there was no party & we were gone all day on her birthday, we got to celebrate the 4th of july with gramma & grampa!  we don’t get to do that very often and we enjoyed our time in the pool, grilling out & playing with fire (and fireworks!).  jovie wore her lovely dress & pretty cupcake necklace from her cousins to the performance, read every book before bed the next day, and painted a gorgeous picture with her paint set.  that was a great weekend, too!!

happy birthday!!!!!!!
